L-Carnitine is an amino acid that functions as part of the body’s energy metabolism. Its function in the body is to transport long-chain fatty acids inside the cell to the mitochondria, where the fatty acids are broken down as part of the cell’s energy production.
The body also produces carnitine from lysine and methionine itself. From the diet, carnitine is obtained from e.g. dairy and meat products.
