Calcium carbonate (KAL see um KAR bon ate) is used to treat heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and other disorders caused by an excess of stomach acid.
It helps by lowering stomach acid. It belongs to a class of drugs known as antacids. It may also be used to boost calcium levels in the body.
Taking calcium twice a day after breakfast and lunch assists the body to absorb it gradually and properly.
Calcium should not be taken in the afternoon or evening, particularly after 9 p.m. If you are taking additional antibiotics, space them out two hours from calcium.
