More Information
Some strains of Lactic acid bacteria present in food are probiotics, such as those from the Lactobacillus genus.
This means that many meals high in lactic acid have probiotic properties and can benefit your gut health. Lactic acid can also help you avoid constipation and other gastrointestinal disorders.
Lactic acid bacteria has been demonstrated to benefit cardiovascular disease and lactose intolerance, as well as prevent and treat cancer, control immunity, and promote gastrointestinal health.
One of the most important forms is known as Bifidobacterium. These healthy bacteria break down dietary fibre, prevent infections, and generate vitamins and other essential compounds.
Low Bifidobacteria numbers have been associated to a variety of disorders, and Bifidobacteria supplements may help alleviate specific disease symptoms.
Bifidobacteria are consumed as probiotics to promote gut microbiota balance.
This, in turn, improves the intestinal environment and adds to overall gastrointestinal health, with the ultimate goal of preventing or treating digestive tract disorders or infections.
Studies show that consumption of BB-12® facilitates an increase of the total number of bifidobacteria and may inhibit some undesirable bacteria in the gastrointestinal microbiota. This is believed to support a healthy microbiota in the gut.
Paracasei can aid in the digestion of food, the absorption of nutrients, and the elimination of “bad” organisms that may cause sickness.
Specific strains of L. paracasei are often used in fermented foods such as yoghurt and probiotic supplements.
Supplementing with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG has been shown in studies to lower the frequency and duration of paediatric diarrhoea, antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, healthcare-associated diarrhoea, and rotavirus diarrhoea.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG has also been shown in studies to help reduce IBS symptoms.
L. acidophilus is a species of beneficial microbial flora that has been shown to have a significant role in a variety of clinical and physiological functions.
It has been demonstrated to help with CVD and lactose intolerance, as well as prevent and treat cancer, control immunity, and promote gastrointestinal health.
